People Tree
People Tree is a pioneer in sustainable fashion, founded in 1991 with the aim of creating beautiful garments that are affordable without costing the earth.
Since the beginning the brand has created a fashion range that complies with the Global Organic Textile Standard certified by the Soil Association, and they were the first fashion company to be awarded the World Fair Trade Organisation product label. These certifications guarantee People Tree’s dedication and compliance to the principles of fair trade, covering fair wages, good working conditions, transparency, environmental best practice and gender equality. Since then People Tree has constantly surpassed its goals including becoming the first brand to achieve the Soil Association certification for the first integrated organic supply chain in fashion.
The brand pride themselves on their human rights and social values by combining old traditional techniques with new innovative technologies which enable workers to learn new skills, particularly in rural areas where jobs are often scarce. People Tree also aims to enhance producer partners' efforts towards economic independence and control over their environment, and to challenge the power structures that undermine their rights to a livelihood.
People Tree uses Fairtrade Certified Organic Cotton in most of its products, using traditional skills including hand block printing, hand weaving, hand knitting and hand embroidery. They also use Tencel and responsibly sourced wool.
