About Kowtow
Kowtow is a New Zealand based label committed to creating positive change. The brand has made a conscious decision to only use renewable and sustainable fibres as ethical manufacturing processes.
Kowtow maintains a very slow production time of 18 months compared to most sustainable brands who have a 6 month lead time. (Non sustainable brands can have a lead time of 30 days!) This ensures the most sustainable materials can be sourced, and the brand can guarantee workers’ rights and environmental protection.
The brand guarantees workers’ rights by only using factories with the SA8000 internationally recognised standard. This ensures workers receive: guaranteed minimum wage, social security fund, pension fund, paid holiday, sick pay, medical insurance, subsidised lunches, overtime pay and workplace unions.
Kowtow uses organic cotton certified by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisation, as well as Tencel Lenzing. All wool, alpaca etc is sourced from New Zealand farms who guarantee the highest level of animal welfare, environmental care and social responsibility, including a commitment to no mulesing.
The brand uses circular economy where possible. The dyes used in production are compliant with ISO14001, meaning dyes are treated before being put into water systems.
